Welcome to Grade 9 "Applying Information Communications Technology"
Throughout the year as you build your knowledge on the topics listed above, you will also be building your website through Weebly.
For each program that we use, you will create a new page and link it to your index / home page. For each of those new pages, you will be required to document what skills you are learning, and what you are doing in class (or at home). This documenting will be done BOTH in text form, AND by posting/ linking/ displaying your assignments.
Each of the pages should eventually then have something to show for each topic/ skill learned. To someone viewing your site, it should be quite clear what the expectations were. As well, a link to this course site will be required.
You are expected to learn and be able to demonstrate the skills taught, and will be rewarded for extra initiative taken beyond what is expected.
For each topic, there will likely be both assignment and test components of some sort. As well class presentations will contribute to term grades.
It is my goal that you will learn valuable skills and programs that you may be able to use in the future for home or work. I hope you will be challenged to do your best, that you'll learn a lot, teach others, and HAVE FUN!
A REMINDER...Never include personal information on your website, and don't add personal information to your profile for online programs. Keep Safe!
Please have your forms signed and returned for next class.
"The use of information technology will help enable all students to solve problems, improve their personal performance, and gain the critical and abstract thinking skills necessary to become lifelong learners and contributing members of their communities."
- Manitoba Education and Training
Purpose:
"The purpose of the course is to reinforce and extend the ICT knowledge, attitudes, and skills acquired by students in the Early and Middle Years. The course will further prepare students to use ICT to learn and demonstrate their learning in all Senior Years courses."
-MECY
General Expectations:
1. There will be a significant amount of peer evaluation and discussion in this class. It is expected that all interactions between students, whether in class or in electronic form, will be appropriate and respectful.
2. Due to storage limits on the school computer system, students must have a removable drive to store their work. It is expected that great care will be taken to ensure that the removable drive is not lost or damaged, and will be frequently backed up at home if possible. This will minimize the possibility of work being lost and projects having to be re-done.
